The Lehigh River, Broadway, rail-car red, and mansion roofs above the trees

Jim ThorpePennsylvania

A red train beside the Lehigh, Victorian mansions above Broadway, and a forested gorge that can be ridden, paddled, or walked—close enough for a weekend and layered enough for two nights.

The first Jim Thorpe weekend

Follow the river by train, then follow Broadway uphill

The station sits between the Lehigh River and a compact historic town. Ride into the gorge in the morning, climb toward the Packer mansions after lunch, and save a separate departure block for biking, rafting, or an easy river walk.

The historic core rises from the station along Broadway; the railway, Packer Hill, and dinner can all fit into one walkable day.

At the foot of Broadway

The station is more than a departure point

The former Central Railroad of New Jersey station holds the visitor center and faces the railway platform, river, and main parking area. Broadway begins just beyond it, rising past restaurants, shops, the opera house, and the courthouse before the historic district narrows toward the Old Jail. From the station, the railway platform, river, Broadway, and Packer Hill all appear within the same compact valley corridor.

Two-night stay

Broadway Friday, railway and mansions Saturday, gorge Sunday

Two nights leave Saturday open for the train and historic district after a Friday evening on Broadway. On Sunday, check out before a full bike shuttle or rafting trip; choose the shorter riverside walk when the drive home needs an earlier start.
